Get Hands-on With Sphero Sphero Robotics Layne Rainey, Senior Education Partnerships Manager

Build a quick model and explore how it can make an engineering concept like gear ratios come to life for elementary and middle school students. Blueprint allows for easy to assemble rapid prototyping due to the practical size and visual and technical simplicity.

K-2: States of Matter with Dry Ice Cool Science Marc Straub, Executive Director

Teachers will dig in to investigate states of Matter (solids, liquids and gasses) and their various phase changes. This will be followed by a hands-on lab exploring a new phase change, sublimation, using dry ice in several fun and exciting ways.

3-6: Rocket Chemistry Cool Science Marc Straub, Executive Director

Participants will use simple chemical reactions and/or electrolysis to generate hydrogen and oxygen gasses to fill a small pipette rocket. We'll use a high voltage spark to ignite and launch the rockets and measure the flight distance, then repeat varying the gas ratio to go for maximum distance.

3D Printing in the Classroom Challenger Colorado Kendra Thompson and Jerard Carney, Engineering Educators

Discover how 3D printing can transform your teaching and classroom organization. In this hands-on professional development session, educators will learn practical strategies to integrate 3D printing into any subject area. From designing engaging projects to managing printers, you’ll gain the skills and confidence to bring your ideas to life and inspire creativity, problem-solving, and real-world learning in your classroom.

K-2: Digital Programs in the Classroom Challenger Colorado Leni Schlieper, Director of Digital Programs

Launching from K-2 students' recent acquisition of Earth and Space standard concepts, students are immersed in a cross-curricular experience which includes a digital program that will challenge students to flex their brains to demonstrate and explain what they know.

3-6: Using E-Missions to Bring Math (&Essential Skills) to Life Challenger Colorado Leni Schlieper, Director of Digital Programs

Build confidence and fluency in math with our dynamic e-missions. Using space science as the hook, students become mission specialists helping to solve real-world problems and discovering that numbers aren’t just worksheets—they’re the key to solving problem, designing inventions, and exploring new worlds.

Using SCAMPER to Teach STEM Roxborough Schools Chantel Estes - 3-6 Engineering Teacher, Jen Jensen, K-6 Innovation Lab, Douglas County Schools

Come join two Douglas County STEM teachers to learn how they integrate the SCAMPER technique into their curriculum. This technique is a way for students to creatively problem solve using the acronym SCAMPER which stands for: Substitute, Combine, Adapt, Modify, Put to other uses, Eliminate, and Rearrange. The process allows students to overcome obstacles and to become flexible in their thinking. Come ready to share ideas and to build examples to take back to your classrooms!

Bringing Water & Energy Science into the Classroom Colorado Springs Utilities Admar Susic, Public Affairs Specialist; Alyssa Naples, Education Contractor

Can the Outdoors Really Increase Student Engagement and Success? Colorado Parks and Wildlife Tracy Predmore - SE Region Education Coord., Heather Hubbard - Statewide Education Coord., Kellina Gillbreth - Education Content Specialist

With time limited in the day, it can be hard to justify taking our students outside for learning opportunities. Join Colorado Parks and Wildlife to learn how outdoor learning can enhance students experiences with STEM. During our time together we will explore: 1) the impacts of nature based learning, 2) strategies to increase student observation and questioning skills, and 3) activity ideas that get students using STEM in real-world situations outside of the classroom. With an optional field trip on Thursday to Cheyenne Mountain State Park, there will be plenty of time to practice new ideas you want to bring back to your classroom!
